A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, it was apparent that several hundred individuals had come together at the location without authorization.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Officers set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and making announcements instructing the crowd to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.
Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 gunshots were fired. The barrage of gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Officers at once began identifying shooting victims.

Crime Scene Evidence
The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have taken place on the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. CSI personnel found additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were discovered in the wrought iron fence adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. This ballistic evidence showed that at least one shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. CSI investigators and detectives remained on scene for hours.
